Fast orthodontic treatment

Orthodontic treatment is a worthwhile investment, but it is an investment of both time and money. At Cater Galante Orthodontics, we want to achieve the best result for each of our patients in the shortest amount of time. Although orthodontic treatment doesn't impact too severely on our patients' lifestyles, it's still nice not to have to wear an orthodontic appliance for too long.

That is why we use Pro V 5, a hands-free device which uses micro vibrations to speed up the movement of your teeth.

How do teeth move?

Teeth are surrounded by three key components:

  • Gingiva - gum tissue that surrounds each tooth and provides a seal
  • Periodontal Ligament (PDL) - a membrane that covers the bottom portion of each tooth
  • Alveolar Bone - hardened bone that surrounds each tooth socket

Teeth move through the bone via a process known as bone remodeling. Force applied to the teeth cause bone cells (osteoblasts and osteoclasts) to mobilize around the root of the tooth in the periodontal ligament (PDL). This cellular response causes changes in the bone surrounding the tooth that allow it to move through the bone.

How do vibrations help teeth to move?

Mechanical stimulation, or vibration as it is also known, of bone has been studied since the mid-1980s to heal bone fractures and to treat osteoporosis. Studies have shown that mechanical stimulation of bone can increase the rate of fracture healing and bone density in long bones.

Vibrating plates are currently available to treat bone and muscle loss. These devices vibrate the entire body – including the head and teeth – and are used by patients for 20 to 30 minutes a day.

What is Pro V 5

Pro V 5 is cleared by the FDA and has been demonstrated safe and reliable in U.S. clinical trials. Pro V 5 vibration is a reasonable and safe approach for accelerating tooth movement. In fact, the force applied to teeth during ordinary chewing is at least 200x greater than the force applied with the Pro V 5 .

Also, many orthodontists and patients have reported that Pro V 5 reduces discomfort associated with tooth movement from braces.

How does Pro V 5 work?

Pro V 5 technology releases a safe and effective light force pulse that transmits through the roots of your teeth to the surrounding bone socket. This helps accelerate the cellular response and speeds the rate with which your teeth can move. When used in conjunction with Invisalign, Pro V 5 has been clinically proven to move teeth up to 50% faster.

iTero Digital Scanner

At Cater Galante Orthodontics, we also use the iTero Intra Oral Digital Scanner. This state-of-the-art orthodontic scanner enables us to take incredibly precise digital impressions of your teeth and bite. This is essential  information which our specialist orthodontists use to prepare your bespoke treatment plan.

The scanner is also used by our team during your treatment to ensure your teeth are moving as they should.

The 3D impressions we extract from this technology means we can see the movement of your teeth in real time and adjust your treatment accordingly. This can result in faster treatment time as we can keep your teeth on track. We use the iTero scanner in conjunction with all our appliances, but particularly Invisalign
